Why I Made This Autumn Scavenger Hunt
Right now, here in Wānaka, the leaves are doing the most beautiful thing.
The reds and golds are coming in properly, there are crunchy piles forming on the footpaths, and the light has that low golden quality that only happens this time of year. Honestly it makes me want to go outside every single day.
Which is exactly what inspired me to put together this free autumn scavenger hunt for you.
It’s simple on purpose. A list of things to look for outside, nothing you need to buy or prepare, just a reason to head out the door together. A red leaf, a feather, a puddle, something blowing in the wind. The kind of things that are everywhere right now if you’re paying attention.
What I’ve noticed, both in my work and in my own life, is that a short time outside following your child’s lead does something for both of you. It softens the pace. It gives your nervous system a bit of room. And it often leads to the kind of connection that just doesn’t happen at the kitchen table.
Some kids will race through the whole list. Others will find one interesting stick and that’ll be the whole walk. Both are perfect.
It works for toddlers right through to school age, it takes as long as you want it to, and the only rule is to follow their lead.
Go grab it below. I hope it gives you a lovely excuse to get out there this week.
